Two Axes

I finally got around to trying two axis movement on my rig. I don't know why I didn't try it earlier, it's pretty simple to do with what I have.

I set up the short slider and stage zero dolly, MX2 controller, and the Radian holding the camera. As the Radian doesn't accept input, a shortcoming in my opinion, it has to be the master control for intervals. The MX2 does accept triggers, for limit switch functions and such, so the Radian triggers the MX2 and the magic happens.

The order of movement is important and fortunately the shutter action is the last thing to happen. The Radian sends a trigger pulse and then moves. The MX2 does it's move first and then triggers the camera at a settable time. This is a little more complex to set up as the movement duration cant be greater than this shutter delay.

The sequence goes like this. Radian sends a trigger pulse to the MX2 which activates the move for the dolly. The radian moves and then the MX2 then triggers the camera.

So long as there's about 1.5 seconds shutter delay on the MX2 this seems to work well and the interval set by the Radian cant be any less than 2 seconds. This allows for the movement to stop and the camera to settle before the shutter opens.

I'll post some tests shortly as I practice tracking/panning shots in the garden.
